Completed with Dwarf Queen vs Burgmeister. Fallen Empire with the Haunted Capital between us (7 squares horizontally from the Fortified Hoburg, 8 squares diagonally from the Dwarven City). I haven't seen much of the AI in this game. I think he was fighting animals, bandits and invisible horrors. He still had strong armies with crossbowmen and constructs, but not the insanely strong ones that he would have in more civilized times. One way or another, these small map challenges are extremely luck-dependent. Still, it was fun and there was a couple of big battles with 200+ men-strong armies and Old Wizards involved. I even had a "thug" scout: a Chosen of Dvalin with 24 HP, 4 AP, armor class 4, ethereality, floating, water breathing and armed with a venom sword. Even with no regeneration, he managed to survive till the end of the game. Well, I guess this makes me Jester. I'm proud!

I just tried this, rolled a Bergmeister vs Bergmeister match and failed. I seemed to have half of the map while he just had a quarter, then the "undead rise from their graves" event happened and my income was wiped out. After reclaiming my income he invaded with a big stack of constructs, killing my only construct builder (whatever they are called) and thus making my gem income zero. Having lost my two indie crunching Hogmeisters (one was ethereal so that must have been an unlucky hit) and thus only having one commander left I conceded defeat.....

FINALLY I won. It was Dwarf Queen vs Dwarf Queen so Im not too proud of the win. But at least I won. My Queen "Ruby Nesque" beat Audumla.
In my many efforts I discovered something interesting. Same vs Same seems easier than Same vs Different. And it didnt matter which it was. Dwarf vs Dwarf was harder. Burgmeister vs Burgmeister was harder. Dwarf vs Burg or vice versa was only rough. I wonder if that would hold true with other nations also.

Won as burg vs. Dwarf queen on 3.03.
Played conservatively protecting the fortified hoburg until a second citadel was captured. Found the dwarves first settlements, captured it, and sniped off commanders as they came to take it back. Once their onslaught slowed down, started capturing the dwarven lands in the direction they came from. In the meantime, picked up a couple ents and catapults, and finally took their starting citadel. The dwarf queen only had 1 or 2 mines the whole game.
I lost a few games prior to this due to reckless battles capturing resources or not protecting the fortified hoburg at the beginning from independents.

FINALLY! Won as a Dwarf Queen against a Burgmeister.
Jesus Christ the 3.04 nerf to dwarves HURTS when going up against something like the hoburgs who field absolute masses of units. With the Count AI bonus to resources, it's game over for the dwarf the instant the first horologist shows up, especially if the hoburg starts with gem rich mines nearby. Didn't matter how many times I started and built up forces, every time I got just swamped by constructs.
The only way to win this scenario as a dwarf with the latest patch is to simply put all troops on the initial commander, workers and all and just rush across the map to capture the Fortified Hoburg and win by citadels. If the hoburg gets a second citadel, it's game over and you might as well restart.
Incidentally, I won the game after the end of the second winter by knocking out the citadel while there were at least two and more probably three armies ranging out. It was my good luck that the monarchy era map looked more like a Dark Ages map, with little in the way of anything available.

I won this one as well: first try on v 3.04. I rolled Burgmeister, and from the start had a nice location, but there were mines all over the map, so it was quite a dwarf hunt as the game progressed. I kept losing mines, and every winter my troops were pretty much useless since they couldn't move. Another problem was how often my frontline Hogmeister would die and leave a bunch of troops twiddling their thumbs on a plain or out in the woods. All in all, this was an okay match because it felt pretty challenging without my own forces feeling overwhelmed. Though I feel like the Burgmeister really churns out the troops, so I was often hanging back and trying to creative massive armies with Ents and Dragons of various kinds. I think Edi had it a lot harder since he rolled the Dwarf class I'm glad I didn't!

I finally won this. Rolled Dwarf Queen vs Burgmeister. The two old wizards i recruited did certainly help with their rank destroying spells. Wild Growth (entangle all enemies) was also nice and helped taking his last citadel, the fortified hoburg with 600+ units. Fortunately he had his constructs elsewhere.

Beat this second try (3.04).
mtadd's script made me the Burgmeister twice.
First try the Dwarves caught me off guard and captured my undefended citadel in Year 2.
Second try I started ok with a Brigand Lair near me and an Ancient Forest, that I could capture later. I got in contact with the dwarves soon and created 2 killer stack with ~ 20 Burgmeister Guards, some militias 70 Crossbows and 15 Slingers, that still stood no chance against about the same number of dwarves.
Fortunately the AI split up its units in small stacks with low sizes and even more fortunate it left about 10 units in every Iron Mine and Guard Tower it found. I could easily kill those with next to no losses of course and replenish my blockers in the guard towers. I kept targetting stacks, that would be easily killed by my hoburgs and that's what I did for about two years (yes there were that many commanders lol)
So the Dwarves suffered heavy losses while my homeland was safe and sound and I created more and more units. Soon the Dwarves were overwhelmed and the Dwarven City conquered. They never posed a real threat.
Dwarves seem a LOT weaker after the 3.03 nerf.

This took some time. V: 3.04 Rolled dwarf vs burgmeister. 1s few games i tried to expand and keep res but my spawn rate just was no match for the burgs. They simply just overran all my efforts. Then tried for the faster tactic of just rushing in to the wilderness and shutting burgmeister down early. This was a success: Tried to get a decend "vid" of it by timelapse but my settings are still in need of a big adjustment: docs.google.com/file/d/0B3yUOlLdEMOdNTJzV1R3eVdSQU8zdC1lV0R5NnZwUQ/edit

V3.03. Rolled Burg vs Dwarf. I think the easier way.
Had 6 Ancient Forests close to my Hoburg, so I had to hide from a lot of animals early, but just got up and running in time to take them, spawn Defenders and mow the animals and enemy down. The dwarves displayed their bad habit of sending small groups to attack me, but no match for Ents.

after a few tries, i managed to wrestle down the burgmeister with the dwarves. despite the small map it was a long game due to lots of indies and the sloooow guards. v3.15

I began as a Burgmeister up against the Dwarf Queen in what I think was Dawn of a New Empire. It was my first time playing the hoburg, and I started pinned below a large river in the southeast corner of the small map. The start seemed slow, with me repeatedly fighting back the bandits and animals. I finally mustered up enough troops to take the first mine and I spotted the second one, but I had to retreat for reinforcements before taking it. I waited for a decent army of around 100 halflings and headed for the second mine. To my surprise, the dwarfs had beat me there and planted a dvala, but she was mostly undefended and died swiftly.
Knowing I had evened the economic odds in one fell swoop, I was feeling pretty confident. But I was about to pay for my arrogance, as I led my only other stack of 71 precious units out onto the frozen river in late winter, to their death. Feeling like the game was over, I made a desperate attempt to engage the multiple dwarven stacks at the center of the map with my only stack of 120 hoburg. To my surprise, my last army repeatedly came out victorious, cutting down over 5 enemy commands plus at least 4 rune masters. The mad rage of my burgermeister from losing so many units stupidly had subsided among the broken bodies of so many dwarves. I came to my senses just in time and retreated, making it out with only a single hoburg swordsman protecting my remaining crossbows.
I then suddenly realized I could tag the ancient forest near my home, which both stopped the flow of indies and allowed me to summon a couple of ents to brace the front lines. It was slow going, as I fought back and forth with the dwarves among the middle cities and the second mine. But having made me retreat with few front line troops, the dwarf queen herself grew overconfident and split her forces too thinly among her many commanders. I repeatedly crushed 2 more dvala who tried to take hold in that second mine. And I slowly captured and retained the central valley, spotting a major dwarven city in the mountains just northwest of the contested area. My only two armies converged on the city of 60 well fortified dwarves, but they we no match for the 200+ hoburg that arrived.
I garrisoned the second mine and the dwarven city, and held the central valley as I rebuilt my armies. Wave upon wave of dwarven commanders, each with only 10-20 units, ventured into my territory and fell silent. Then the waves stopped, as she was finally running short on funds. My ents, dragons, swords and crossbows easily swept across the remaining map, taking her final two dvalas. This victory was the most satisfying yet, because after my terrible blunder threatened to ruin my existence, desperate bravery combined with strategic retreat saved the day.
