Feel free to post if you are victorious, or if you are just working on the achievement. Also, feel free to comment on your thoughts about its difficulty. The requirements for the achievement, just so you know, are as follows: Defeat one Knight-level AI on a large map. Player class: random AI class: random For me, it ended up being a battle in the monarchy era between my Troll King and their Bakemono. I think their Shaman must have died pretty early because they didn't have very many good summons by the end of the game even though they had a few villages Both my Troll King and Mum ended up dying in stupid ways (Mum got eaten up by wolves of all things ) so I never got to play with her end game rituals and ended up relying on regular ol witch doctors and one troll shaman. Early in the game my troll king beat a labyrinth full of slime cubes that couldn't do anything against him, but I didn't get anything from it and have no idea what labyrinths do even except waste your time. Overall it was a pretty fun match, even though the AI disappointed me ;D. The Bakemono only ever took back a couple of their villages from me and never really managed to go on the offensive, and they never won any major battles.

Might be good if you can rename the thread the "Your just a Commoner" achievement thread, or something of the like. We can have a thread for each trial. Starting this trial now, first game lost due to creeping doom, second game as Hobergs looking promising

Just did it as the Hobergs vs Dwarves, it was a real battle of the little people.
They could just spam and spam and spam commanders, I ended up having two armies pushing forward, two armies hitting the many commanders entering my territory and some armies mopping up the dwarven commanders that were missed. The whole idea of dwarven queens laying eggs and spreading like ant colonies was awesome.

Done. I happened to be a Warlock of Earth and my opponent was a Dwarf Queen. The society was either Monarchy or Agricultural -- there were not many cities and the indeps were relatively weak. There was one very dramatic if somewhat buggy moment in the game, but that turned out to be the strongest of my opponent's armies. She had another army almost as big, which was destroyed by my former apprentice who had become a Great Warlock of Fire. He did quite impressive casting of Meteor Showers, killing most of the dwarves, himself, and a half of his army (and severely crippling the remaining half). Still, we won. Aside from these two epic victories, it was mostly hunting down small dwarven parties and clearing Dvala-infected mines. Not very challenging, but not entirely boring either.

Ahh crap. Im going to claim it but it was Troll King vs Bakemono and I think it was Early Age. I just rushed him.
This was after a number of failures. Maybe I will try for something more impressive later

Creeping doom can be a jerk to starting armies =P Yep, first attempt at this achievement I ended up with Pale Ones and, from the start, my beginning army got wiped out by a Creeping Doom. Since I only had one army with which to explore (after having to create said army), I sent them out to grab resources and a large army of druids crept in and took my citadel. First attempt failed. Update: Well, that was a short game. I ended up with a High Cultist, and in an ambitious move, got most of my army and my apprentice killed off the bat. Then, I got impatient and had my High Cultist killed in trying to take a village guarded by two units. So now Elrod the Enchanter is up to bat. He is doing alright, except that he only has one major commanding army, owns only 10% of the map, and is next to the enemy's citadel, which looks like this: And that's not to mention the additional rather large necromancer armies running around. This could take a while.

Just completed achievement with an Enchanter up against a necromancer. It was a long drawn out game. I went from having hardly any resources to grabbing everything and putting guardians on it and slowly pinning the Necromancer into his area of the map. If the AI were more aggressive, I would have most definitely been toast. It wasn't such a fun game due to the fact that it felt like grinding (trying to build up armies and the necromancer not making many offensive moves). I tried to use portals to get my armies around quick, but couldn't figure out how to use them. It took exactly 500 turns to win and I ended up having to take down the citadel, though I forgot to keep a gamelog until near the end of the game. A more challenging game in terms of patience than strategy. Here is the near endgame gamelog: ubuntuone.com/1S1JguhQ5F31ZXy1L5LIQG

Hi, all.
I just beat the You're Just a Commoner challenge on my first go. My Barbarian, Krolm, defeated Tirza, the High Priestess. I was worried when she first wandered into my territory because she was so aggressive. I was having a hard time building up troops due to the large wilderness being sparsely dotted with towns. When a Creeping Horror started attacking by settlements, I thought I was done for.
But the Horror creeped elsewhere and Tirza left her plundered cities woefully unguarded. She managed to maneuver me into a fight with a Colossus she had discovered, but my regenerating werebears and five mages held it off and defeated her.
Took around 90 minutes, so I feel like I had a couple of lucky rolls with the randomizer.
Can't wait to try the others.

Yeeehaaaaaaa! I have achieved the status of commoner on the first go. Angorin the Warlock of Earth defeated Gelmer the Troll King in the Monarchy era fairly easily.
I ended up having a fairly good start gold wise and after some initial difficulties, managed to gain a decent income of all gem types and when I took the King's Castle next door, the gold just started pouring in.
Got lucky and found Troll King and Mum all by their twosome, so a few cave drakes, a purple worm, a row of crossbows and some cheap sword fodder made short work of them, leaving the Troll King with no troll forests and several giant commanders and quite a few trolls.
In the end I had a Warlock of Fire (exploration duty), a Great Warlock of Air and a Warlock of Water in addition to my main hero and the Air and Earth warlocks crushed the Troll King's final armies.
There was a gold mine on the map too, with an income of 6 rubies, but trying to dig out 94 dwarves and a dvala would have been harder than winning this game.

Just finished my first try at this challenge and was successful. I was given the Druid and the enemy was a Demonologist and I think the era was the Dawn of a New Empire as there was a dragon guarding a location and there were hardly any mines or villages/towns/cities. It took 112 turns and the last log is attached. The end game was pretty tense as his Goetic Master started rampaging through my territory with a decent size 50 or so army. I threw about a 90 unit army at him with a druid and druid apprentice and was doing decent until he started using Rain of Blood (Feal All) and Summon Fiend. I was ahead 50 to 8 in the battle and still lost that one, lol. He only survived with himself and 4 other units. Fortunately, my master druid and a modest army was nearby and I had a Beholder leading another smallish (30) army on the other side. Right as I was about to attack him with my Beholder army, he got off a major? summon and got a Greater Devil out. Ugh! My Beholder army took out the Goetic Master the next turn and one turn later my master druid army with a very strong Basilisk took out the Greater Devil and I won because the enemy had no commanders left. One thing that bummed me out is that with that --battlereports tag I didn't get a chance to see that last battle, it went to the You Win screen and that was it. Oh well! I imagine my Basilisk petrified him and killed him . Early on I was a little worried as I accidentally moved some guys into some tough battles that I survived. Also, a bit later on one of my upgraded normal Druids got whacked by a catapult. That hurt for a while. I was fortunate to win when I did as a huge spirit event triggered and dispossesed spirits were everywhere! I am glad I didn't have to clean all those up. Great ideas on these challenges! I would have never tried some of the things I did and experienced a lot I wouldn't have otherwise. Plus, the feeling of achievement was pretty cool too. Keep em comin! EDIT: I just realized that the early era is the Dark Ages and that is what I meant lol. I think that is the one I was in. Attachments:

I defeated Priest King as a High Cultist in what was probably the Agricultural society. It was a bit slow, if non-eventful in the beginning. I was lucky in my first attempt summoning a starspawn at the beginning of year 3. And around turn 40, I spotted a big 70+ unit stack with 2 priest kings, which I quickly took out with a major horror. I wish I had a screenshot of it. It had over 100 hitpoints, 5 poison aura which basically did in the first row of slaves, and the first thing it did was summons some mind slime horrors that it could hide behind to give it time to cast meteors across the entire battlefield. Shortly thereafter, I conquered the temple city which was their only citadel.

I finally did it with a High Cultist against a Necromancer. After i got my first Elder Star Spawn with Strange Dimensions i killed his massive stacks without much losses.

That was hilarious. I played Burgmeister and after turn 5 I won because AI's Warlock lost his citadel. I'll replay it .
